Where do I send letters to someone that is in navy basic training?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

My friend just left for the navy’s basic training in IL and I want to know how to contact him, send him letters. Also, how long do they have to be in basic before they are able to contact the rest of the world?

When I went to Navy Boot, on the first days there you send your family your contact address. You need the general address as well as their division number. So within a week of his leaving, call up his mother or whatever his closest family is, and they should have received his address.
They can write letters to friends/family whenever they get time, but as I recall, we only had time on Sundays.
Towards the VERY end of Boot, we got to make a phone call. Some lucky divisions will get a chance to make a couple phone calls.
Hope this helps.

How should I ask my teachers for letters of recommendation?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

I actually have a few questions about recommendation letters.

1. How should I go about asking teachers for them?
2. Is there anything I should give my teachers if they say yes?
3. Is there anything else I should know about recommendation letters?

1. I would choose teachers with whom you have a strong, personal relationship. You certainly want to select teachers whose classes you have done well in. I would simply approach them before/after class and ask "Would you be comfortable writing a letter of recommendation for me? I am applying for …." If this is not feasible, send them an e-mail asking if they would be comfortable writing a letter of recommendation and explaining why you would like a letter from them.
2. It is customary to give the teacher an envelope in which to place their recommendation. Depending on the program you are applying for, you may need to address and stamp it separately and have the teacher sign the seal (therefore preventing any tampering with the envelopes contents). Some programs will ask that you have the professor mail the envelope separately, while some request that you include it in your general mailing.
3. Remember that the teacher is doing you a favor by writing a letter of recommendation. Try to make it as easy for them as possible, including explaining what the program is you are applying for. Do not try to dictate what the teacher says. If they ask you, be prepared to talk up a few competencies you have demonstrated in their class or activities that you feel are relevant.

Good Luck!

How can you change lower case letter into upper case letters without typing everything over?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

At work we use upper case letters for everything but sometimes I will accidentally write a paragraph in lower case and I don’t realize it until i’m done. Is there a way to make them upper case without writing everything over?

If you’re using MS Word, you can highlight the text you want to change and hit shift + F3 twice. The first time you hit it, it will only capitalize the first letter. The second time it capitalizes everything. The third time brings everything back down to lower case. You can toggle it all you want.

An Introduction To Sales Letters

Monday, February 15th, 2010

The world is truly a continuous work in progress. That is because it is estimated that every hour, a new business or company starts up, making up for already congested industries.

Different industries have different companies and you could be surprised how the number of firms is increasing through time. Thus, the competition is so intense that the consumers are already becoming too confused on how to pick the company they would transact with.

Through the years, many marketing and advertising firms have sprouted to help different companies get to their intended clients. Thus, there are numerous ads and marketing campaigns that circulate through all media portals. These services usually lead you to transacting with firms for your specific needs.

Sales letters are among these new marketing and advertising tools. Through the years, companies and consumers are starting to recognize the effectiveness and use of these marketing documents.

Sales letters

Because people always easily get bored with the conventional, companies must make sure their messages come across to prospective clients. Because there is too much going on in the media and to the working environment, ads and marketing strategies must be very creative enough to solicit attention.

Because people are starting to get tired of the usual media ads, they sometimes tend to neglect uninteresting promotional and marketing campaign materials. If that happens, then the message would not be communicated and the initiative would be futile.

Sales letters are like actual business letters, only that the nature and communication style is different. In sales letters, the writer tends to be too personal and talk to the readers as if they are long-time friends, or as if they generally share the same sentiments.

Surveys have found that letter readers normally pay attention to personal letters, especially those that can relate to their own and personal experiences. Sales letters initially establish that personal connection. Afterwards, they discreetly state their intention, which is to persuade you into buying a product or services.

The purpose of sales letters

Each type of letters has its own purpose. In the case of the sales letter, the purpose is to convince the reader to move and place an order or buy / subscribe products and services. In this regard, it can be asserted that sales letters are like sales talk with prospective clients.

If sales people find it challenging to convince people to buy products personally through short talks, it is more challenging persuading people to buy products through letters. But if the letters hit the right notes, the result is almost always clear: the reader would act to buy the product or service.

Thus, many marketing and ad firms are resorting to writing business letters because company clients also ask them to do so, considering the significant results of the marketing tools.

Sales letters purposely influence people’s minds and perceptions so these people can be ordered to buy the products. That is why it is important that sales letters be written effectively.

Writing sales letters

Considering the purpose, sales letters must be written in ways that would surely persuade readers. How could that be? By getting straight to the point and honest.

In writing sales letter, experts advise that you should bear the intended readers in mind while composing the content. Ask yourself, “Will this letter attract attention of readers?” If the answer to the question is yes, then proceed to another one, “How can I keep the readers engaged to the letter so they could absorb the persuasive message?”

To attract attention, use strong marketing words that surely create an appeal to readers. Create catchy and interesting subject headings. Keep the readers engaged by being straight to the point. Offer the best you could, like the benefits of buying the product.

Sales letters must not be too wordy. Assume that the readers are busy people who have better things to do and to attend to instead of spending a precious minute reading a letter. If the letter communicates a clear message in a minute or less, then it surely would be effective and would easily drive the reader to suggested action, which is simply to buy the product endorsed.

A sales letter is a contemporary sales and marketing tool. It is a material that facilitates a quick interaction and communication between you and the readers. Never let the opportunity pass. Be persuasive enough.

What do the numbers and letters around a contact lens mean?

Monday, February 15th, 2010

I can see numbers "1 2 3" and a bunch of other letters on my contact lenses and I’m not sure if they’re indicating how I’m supposed to place them on my eyes. I have astigmatism. Help!

When you see 123 then you know the contact is not in side out. When you see 321 the contact is inside out and will not fit well.

you can use swedish characters on the blackberry 9700 (other models too as far as i know)

you can get Ä, Å, and Ö characters on your blackberry. it’s pretty simple too, let’s use Ä as an example:
you would have to hold on the A button and scroll the trackpad until you get Ä. you can do that with the other letters and you will have swedish characters as well as other ways of using that letter

How can I get recognized, and receive college letters concerning wrestling in college?

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Im finishing my sophomore year in high school. My friends have been telling me that they have been recieving some college letters, and I didn’t at all. I am better them. Record shows it. I don’t plan to wrestle D-1. I’ll be happy if I get accepted to D-3 or D-2 college team.

So can anybody give me some tips,or tell me how to get exposed to colleges and start recieving letters. I would like to keep my options open.

There are no D3 athletic scholarships in any sport. Are your friends Sophomores or Juniors. You need to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center early in your Junior Year.
https://web1.ncaa.org/eligibilitycenter/common/
https://web1.ncaa.org/eligibilitycenter/student/index_student.html
Go to camps frequented or run by coaches at the universities you are interested in. Go to the Wrestling Program’s website and look for links to contact the coach. Let him know you are planning on applying to the College and would like to wrestle.
Note what is stated on Stanford’s(D1) website regarding contact with sophomores:
http://www.gostanford.com/compliance/prospects-recruiting.html
See Welcome Recruits:
http://www.gostanford.com/sports/m-wrestl/stan-m-wrestl-body.html
All athletic scholarships are for one year only by NCAA rules, renewable at the discretion of the coach. It is actually better to be tagged as an "athletic recruit" at the D3 level or at an Ivy League as the academic standards are lower for "athletic recruits" at most schools including Ivy League universities, which are D1 but do not offer athletic scholarships. Then see what type of financial package will be offered, as this will usually be for four years.
Good Luck!
