How do you sign your cover letter if you are emailing it?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

I am submitting my resume together with a cover letter online (not as a hard copy) as requested by the company. I am, however, wondering – do I need to sign the letter in this case and if so, how do I sign it? I scanned my signature and inserted in the letter, but is it appropriate? Should I just type my name and leave it unsigned?

You don’t need to sign it, but I sign alot of documents electronically with Adobe Acrobat.

Honestly, as someone who sees alot of resumes, I wouldn’t care at all. In fact, I might see the signature as unnecessary and overdoing it, depending on my mood.

Keep your focus on the fundamentals: follow up call to confirm they recieved it and ask for appointment, do research on the company, be prepared for standard interview questions, send thank you emails to everyone you meet with, etc.

Go for it, and Good luck!

What is the difference between a letter of interest and a cover letter?

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

I need to write a letter of interest for a job I am applying for. What would you recommend I put on this letter? Do I just write about why I am interested, why I would be a good fit for the job or both?

Myself I think that letters are good, providing they are written utilizing good syntax and spelling (always use a spoil chequer!). You can get some good guidance for writing letters by reading the website in the box below, it’s got plenty of alternative things about job seeking as well.

What to write in a cover letter when applying to the police dept?

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

The department I am applying to does not have standard application forms. I have to send my resume along with a coverletter as my application, but I have no idea what sorts of things they would want to see in this letter. I have written many letters for office jobs and recreation positions, but I imagine this letter will not look much like any of those. Please help!
Ignore the response from Bubba Jr. he is mad because I told him that he would not be voted President as he stated he is anti-gay and holds Mexicans’ in low regard.

Tell them you’ll be happy to take a bribe.

When sending a cover letter and resume for a job, How do I start the letter when there is no name to address?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

example: ft front desk help, please send cover letter and resume to blahh blahh blahh

How do I start the letter of? Dear f/t help? or dear sir’s or to whom it may concern?

I would put:

Dear Sir or Madame / Human Resources Department

I was inquiring regarding the Full Time Front Desk Office Position you have available at this time. (Then say what ever you think would be best to say after that)

Good luck Boots!!!! As you know I am in the Entertainment Business but I use to work as a Receptionist and as a Customer Service Rep for many years, give that a try.

What do you write in a letter requesting an interview?

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

I’m a rather hopeless letter writer and want to create templates for my most common letters that don’t involve personal details and then I want to use mail merge to fill in fields. Being a hopeless letter writer I have a need for these letters but no idea what to write in them. Ideas?

It’s as easy as mailing a cover letter with a copy of your resume. You can usually use the same general format for your cover letters, but customize each one a little bit so it has a more personal touch. For example, point out why you are the best candidate for a new hire for the organization at which you would like to work.

Most employers will not take a second glance at your resume unless the first paragraph of your cover letter really grabs their attention. It’s important to say as many positive things as you can in a very brief letter. Your resume should be kept to one page as well, unless you have decades of relevant work experience and you’re trying to get a very prestigious position such as a Senior Vice President. The operative word in my previous sentence is "relevant." Bigger is not always better. The people reading your cover letter and resume will all be very busy, so only include the best things that are the most relevant to the position you’re after.

See the link in my source for some great examples. Good luck!
