The Basics About RSS Feeds for Web Site Traffic

Friday, May 21st, 2010

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication.  RSS feeds are used   to distribute   your website content to other sites.  It contributes to  targeted website traffic.  RSS is a really great way to automate getting your new and updated content from your web site out to the world particularly specific populations that you are trying to reach.

More and more folks are usingRSS feeds to get updated and new information sent to them automatically so that they don’t have to go out to every single one of their favorite sights to look for updates manually.

They can sign up for free accounts to get an RSS Reader which will alert them to new stuff that they indicate an interest in.    2 commonly used readers are Google and Yahoo.  It is very easy to set up a free account with any one of those sites.

The RSS readers give your audience easy ways to subscribe to your new updates from your website .  Then, when they see something that really grabs their interest, they are more likely to visit your website to read more about it.  This is how simple it is to generate web site traffic and why RSS feeds should definitely be added to your traffic generation arsenal.

Using Wordpress makes setting up RSS Feeds of your content extremely simple.  But, if you use a basic HTML based website you will need to manually create an RSS feed.  There are a couple of websites that can help. Just do a quick search in your favorite search engine for – HTML to RSS Feed – and you will be presented with a number of different sites where you can easily set up a feed that delivers your content to others.

Something that should not be overlooked when getting more out of the RSS feeds you create is to syndicate it on other websites.  This will just expand your reach even further.  Do this by developing relationships with other webmasters or use directories.

Subscribing and unsubscribing from RSS feeds is pretty easy for most people.    If you want people to subscribe to your RSS Feeds without having to visit your website try using feed directories.  There are directories specific to certain industries that pull in new information from other websites all with RSS.  There are directories specific to sports, news, medical stuff, and more.

You can manually submit your feed or invest in special software that automates the process to really have it take off.  Using software to automate tasks of this nature is usually a good option.  That is the type of traffic generation tactic that is tedious and time consuming if you don’t outsource it or automate it.

Automated RSS software will expedite building up backlinks to your website which contributes to building page rank.  That leads to higher listings in search results for your targeted keyword phrases and naturally, much more traffic.

What do you write in a letter requesting an interview?

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

I’m a rather hopeless letter writer and want to create templates for my most common letters that don’t involve personal details and then I want to use mail merge to fill in fields. Being a hopeless letter writer I have a need for these letters but no idea what to write in them. Ideas?

It’s as easy as mailing a cover letter with a copy of your resume. You can usually use the same general format for your cover letters, but customize each one a little bit so it has a more personal touch. For example, point out why you are the best candidate for a new hire for the organization at which you would like to work.

Most employers will not take a second glance at your resume unless the first paragraph of your cover letter really grabs their attention. It’s important to say as many positive things as you can in a very brief letter. Your resume should be kept to one page as well, unless you have decades of relevant work experience and you’re trying to get a very prestigious position such as a Senior Vice President. The operative word in my previous sentence is "relevant." Bigger is not always better. The people reading your cover letter and resume will all be very busy, so only include the best things that are the most relevant to the position you’re after.

See the link in my source for some great examples. Good luck!
